Difference of Varicose Veins and Phlebitis
Varicose veins are swollen veins caused by damaged valves which allow the blood to pass on its return to the heart. If these valves don’t function adequately, blood is accumulated in the veins causing varicose veins. This occurs mainly in legs even though they may be present in the rectum causing hemorrhoids.
Standing and walking for a long time is the main cause of varicose veins and leg pain. Veins become varicose or swollen when their valves (tiny flaps which help bring the blood up to the heart) malfunction. When this happens, gravity takes it course and the blood fails to get pushed up.
The blood is somewhat trapped and remains stagnant, thus distending the veins. For some people it can cause aching pain and discomfort, but for some this is simply just an aesthetic concern. - Redness and swelling in the veins, accelerated pulse.
- Slight fever, and pain in the affected area
- A complication of this is the formation of a blood clot in the swollen vein, this problem can become serious.
Causes of Phlebitis:
- Pregnancy and Childbirth operation.
- Infections in the veins.
- Disease or injury
- Slowed circulation during prolonged bed rest.
Recommended Treatments for Phlebitis:
- Regular exercise to improve blood circulation and the intake of fruit juices to reduce internal inflammation to prevent this disease.
- Rub the affected area with warm lotion several times a day.
- Elevation of the affected area.
- Phlebitis can be prevented with a treatment similar to that of varicose veins. .
- In cases of injury, it is best to take bee propolis to prevent any infection. Consult your doctor.
How to Improve Blood Circulation to Reduce Varicose Veins and Phlebitis:
- Exercise helps the blood in your legs to circulate. Recommended exercise is stretching and yoga which can help in the normal blood circulation
- Walk for at least one hour a day. Walking will strengthen leg muscle and will help diminish varicose veins. When the muscle is strong it will help support the veins.
- Try to avoid high heels if you can. Low heeled shoes don’t strain your legs that much, that is why it is better for your veins.
- Do not cross legs to avoid distended veins. This relieves pressure in your legs.
- When at home elevate your leg or put a pillow under your legs.
- Wear pantyhose this will help support the leg muscle.
- If you have been standing or walking for a long time take a break and sit down to relax your legs.
- Lose weight because those extra weight can put pressure on your legs, this can cause strain on circulation.
- Massage your legs everyday with coconut or grapeseed oil to improve circulation and to strengthen the veins.
- If varicose veins are not taken care of they can burst and cause sores.
